Kinder® Pocket Diapers and Diaper Covers have a lot of snaps on the front of them. But are they really necessary?
Modern, one size cloth diapers are designed to fit most babies from birth to potty training age. Our Kinder® Pocket diapers fit from roughly seven to sixty pounds for most children. In order to make one product that fits such a wide range of different sized babies and toddlers, modern cloth diapers need to be incredibly adjustable and customizable—the snaps along the front of the diaper are what make this flexible and adjustable fit possible.
Our Kinder® pocket diapers feature an arrangement with 35 front panel snaps. I know that sound excessive, but trust me, it is both purposeful and practical. More snaps means more customization, and ultimately, a better fit.
Let's identify the different types of snaps in our 35 snap arrangement using the image below:
Why are hip snaps important on cloth diapers?
Hip snaps are an important feature on cloth diapers, especially for smaller or slimmer babies. These snaps help keep the front of the diaper flat against the baby's tummy and ensure a snug fit around the legs, which prevents the diaper from drooping or sagging around the legs which can contribute to leaks.
Secure the hip snaps before fastening the waist snaps for the best fit.
How to use waist snaps on modern cloth diapers:
Waist snaps are essential on cloth diapers because they securely fasten the diaper around a baby's waist, much like the adhesive tabs on disposable diapers. When setting the waist snaps on Kinder diapers, ensure that the tabs lay flat along baby's belly allowing for a small gap between the diaper and baby's stomach.
Crossover or Dirty Closure Snaps
For very tiny babies, crossover snaps allow you to overlap the waist tabs, making the diaper waist even smaller than standard snaps permit, ensuring a snug, leak-free fit. This is especially useful for newborns or babies with slim builds.
Additionally, crossover snaps, also called dirty closure snaps, serve a practical purpose when diapers are not in use: they can be fastened to keep the diaper closed after washing or when storing soiled diapers before laundry, preventing them from unfolding and helping to keep your diaper stash tidy and organized.
Rise Snaps
Rise snaps on pocket diapers are important because they allow the diaper to adjust in length, making one diaper fit a wide range of sizes. Our Kinder® pocket diapers fit newborns as small as seven pounds and toddlers weighing as much as sixty pounds.
By snapping the rise to different settings, parents can customize the fit to their baby’s current size, rather than having a variety of different size diapers on hand as baby grows. This adjustability helps prevent leaks and blowouts, keeps babies comfortable as they grow, and maximizes the lifespan and usability of each diaper.
There are five different adjustable rise settings on our best selling pocket diaper.
- Newborn Disposable (7-10 lbs), Rise 5
- Size 1 Disposable (8-14 lbs), Rise 4 & 5
- Size 2 Disposable (12-18 lbs), Rise 4
- Size 3 Disposable (16-28lbs): Rise 3 and 2
- Size 4 Disposable (22-37lbs): Rise 2
- Size 5 Disposable (27+lbs): Rise 2 and Open Rise
